headington piano studio

professionally equipped studio

My teaching studio is equipped with a Steinway Grand Piano (Model A). I also have a digital piano with fully-weighted, 88-keys and triple pedal. Audio and technical equipment on hand includes a PA system to which all my audio equipment is connected.  I have audio and video recording facilities for recording performances, digital examinations and for online teaching. I have a a 2 metre tall perspex screen, originally acquired as a component of my Covid precaution measures and now doubles as a support for green-screen video recording of performances for the Virtual Concert performances. I have an extensive library of music books – in particular many books on music theory, history and piano pedagogy and performance.

Professionally qualified teacher

I hold Full Professional Membership of the European Piano Teachers Association (EPTA) – the  association which administers the register of professional piano teachers in the UK. EPTA educates, develops and supports professional piano teachers throughout the UK and, via its sister associations, throughout Europe and beyond. EPTA members must hold a piano performance and/or piano teaching diploma (as a minimum qualification) before applying for Full Professional Membership status. EPTA’s Piano Pedagogy Course is recognised as the gold standard for educating professional piano teachers in the UK. I successfully completed the course in 2002. I have 20+ years of experience teaching piano at all levels and ages, including many beginners. I continue my development as a teacher – joining The Curious Piano Teachers online community of progressive teachers in 2017 and have attended their online and in-person events – including meeting the authors of Piano Safari face to face  when they presented ay the first ‘Curious Live’ event. Piano Safari is my go-to modern, progressive recommendation of teaching methods for beginners. I am Head of Piano for the annual Oxford Music Festival, where work to ensure the Festival welcomes players of all ages and abilities. I also sit on the Festival’s Music Committee. During the Festival I am present as Piano Music Steward to help look after all of the players who make up the  200+ piano entries the Festival attracts each year.
